Crappy Pic but trend can be seen,

268 - 83 hp @ 5018rpm, 126nm @ 2469rpm
276 - 99 hp @ 5404rpm, 134nm @ 5004rpm

Only noticed how nicely the torque on my car holds all the way to 5000rpm, explains the break in traction when floored...
Nice power gains there sir. :hurray:

Hahaha, you've got a good point. But the power and torque looks pretty good, so I'm sure it can't be a 1.6 with the legendary vr6 injectors...

VWicked wrote:I will take off the head at some point and confirm. SAC stuff can be dodgy but I wanted a CTi, didn't care if it didn't run at all.
Management wise, it's still standard Bosch kjetronic, has a wildcat 4-2-1 branch and 57mm free flow, one box one resonator. Branch diameter I can't comment exactly on but looks 40mm or so.

Ok cool Jash, this helps alot! Thanks a meeeelion :hurray:
VWicked wrote:We fine tuned the fueling a bit last night at panics as it was bit rich so now we will see how consumption is.
Aha, the famous Panic tweaking. I'm pretty sure that your consumption is going to be better now. And now you're going to want to keep that cam, just saying...

Just some useless info. When I put the 276 in my 1.4, I got about 8.5km/l mixed driving. After I had her tuned, I got up to 10.5km/l mixed driving. Fine tuning means a hell of a lot on a motor. :driving:

Yeah the torque curve looks really good and you can feel it pulling strong all the way through the rev range. Fuel consumption is better now as well so I'm a happy chappy now.

committing to trying it out on a tank to see consumption effect and to disprove panic's theory () or for him to say - "told you so..." He does that a lot, not fun to have around...

Ok unless my timing adjustment isnt great I feel a loss everywhere except perhaps 1000-2000rpm. I suppose it makes similar torque and you still feel decent acceleration in 1,2,3 when booting it but in 5th when I planted it I could feel the 276 pulling strong all the way, the stock cam still pull but I think the loss in hp is really noticable at the top end.

Overall conclusion, not particularly happy but lets see how it goes fuel wise.

I will definitely do so when I get a gap, next 3 weeks are going to be very stressful so perhaps towards end of october. May also have the 298 by then then we can test that quickly as well just in time for the drag day!

And so, I tried another...

So, a mate lent me a 288 cam for testing, we found it was a regrind VW solid lifter W cam but Stephan said try it and see...

Eventually stopped at 93hp 123nm (made 95hp at some point), 6hp and 10nm down from 276... Bleh... Panic said issue with regrinds is the lift is not the same as a grind from a proper billet...

So ja, I'm over spending school fees on this. Next cam is the final cam for this car and I then need to focus on the mk2.

In Summary,
Stock B Cam 254 - 80hp 123nm
268 Cam tuned - 85hp 130nm
276 Cam tuned - 99hp 134nm
288 Cam tuned - 93hp 123nm

I am sure a proper 288 estas would give better results as you can see the graph is better than the 276 to 6000rpm just that its 5hp under all the way through the rev range at the moment. Sounds bloody great though.

Final cam seems to either be my old 276 or a 282 and put that car to rest... 298 will happen when I dont have to drive it daily.

Don't give up bud this is great research and a benchmark for most guys to look at, Get an Estas 288 cam and see how it does.

Interesting facts so far.

276 Cam tuned - 99hp 134nm

Got a 276 on my longblock. 57mm exhaust. Not so sure on the branch.

Think she must go for a dyno early Dec to compare. :hurray:

The power figures are not that relevant, just notice the gains. I have all the graphs getting a mate to convert them to .jpg so I can load them here.

That 20hp gain from stock cam to 276 is very decent
