95 VW Citi Golf Shuttle 1.3 4 Speed..

Post by PoloM »

Hi Everyone

I am considering buying this car. It has been well looked after by the owner.

Just some questions.

I had a 5 speed citi golf a while back, is the 4 speed reliable. Also any 1 owned a 4 speed before?

How is the Fuel Consumption? Any other issues to consider?

Thanking you advance

4 speed is good. And dirt cheap to replace. Not to bad on fuel. mine did 12km/l. But was always driving it to the limits.

Just a good full service and maybe timing and fanbelt and your good to go.

Hi Rudi

Fantastic, tnx for the feedback.

If I get it I post a pic up here...coastal car has a bit of rust but nothing major, was more concerned about 4 speed box and fuel

I have the exact same car, it's just an earlier model.

It's super light on fuel if you drive slow and steady. The only problem is when you want to drive on the highway. The ratios are so short that you have to drive at higher than desired rev's just to go 120km/h. But if you take it chilled and just cruise the highway at 90-100 it's alright

My first new car I ever bought was a white 1996 VW Chico 4 speed.

All i did was add a slightly bigger bore stainless steel free flow pipe (sounded throaty but was never intrusive inside the car) and gas shocks with the standard springs. I drove that little car hard but with care and when it was stolen, it had 78000k's on the clock, hadn't used a drop of oil between services (despite the handbook saying up to 500ml / 1000km was acceptable   )

I have just sold my girlfriends 1995 Shuttle with 278 000km's on the clock for R15k. It has a right rear impact from a **** running into the back of her at a Stop sign in Feb. His insurance paid out R10k f0or repairs to be effected so effectively R25k in the bank; my view was that spending the R10k on fixing the car wouldn't realise an additional R10k in sale price (maybe we would have got R20k if repaired) so sold as is for R15k.

If the car is structurally solid and you can get it for a good price, my view is they're awesome little jammies that have huge scope to trick out later if and when budget allows.

Go for it

Hi Guys

Tnx for the feedback. The owner is an old lady. The car is stock standard she has owned it from new. Going for R17500. Going to take it for a test drive this weekend.

Maybe the clutch might need to be replaced...lol

Still got it, still going. Think I might have to replace the head gasket now though

I'd like to know one thing.
What radio/cassette player came standard on this car?
The Grundig brand seems to come to mind
