I have a 2016 VW KOMBI 2.0TDI Trendline with 96,000km on the ODO.
Earlier this year the con rod hit through the block causing major damage to the engine. VW shop in Bloemfontein determined that it is uneconomical to repair and provided a pretty heavy estimate.
Every thing from the gear box on is fine mechanically and the car's interior is still in good nick.
I now need to make a call on the best way forward and am hoping for some guidance from the VW SA club.
As I see it my options are to either (A) sell the car as is without the engine or (B) replace the engine with built up / refurbished or new engine. What would you do?
I am based in Gauteng and am looking for references to reputable shops that can source and install engine as required, references to shops where I can source the engine myself, references to shops that might be interested in buying the car as is and any other guidance that might be helpful.
Also wondering if built up engine or new engine as worth considering.
