Golf GTD

Post by Fiftee »

What are your thoughts on the GTD? Being axed in SA and all, I think it is a good car and there are a few ones in the pre-owned market and most have mileage of below 100K. I think people bought them expecting GTi or maybe TDi performance and were disappointed that is why they sold them so soon.

Any of you guys have experience with the car or owns one ?

Actually liked it and did consider it but the discount that was offered by the dealer on a GTI was a no brainer.

I actually like it too especially in dark navy or whatever that colour is called that it was launched with in SA, despite the negative reviews about it's performance. One guy on Buyer's Guide said it is like a non-alcoholic beer compared to normal beer i.e. the GTi

I just find it weird how guys over here always say turbo diesels are good cars but I am yet to read any post about it.

I’m sure if you do software on it it’ll make it more desirable?

Since owning a TDI, I would definitely get a GTD. The fuel economy of a TDI is just great and with software and a few things, it will have decent performance with great looks. So ticks all the boxes for me.

Exactly.I mean some of the reviews and opinions about the car are so negative , you would swear it's the worst VW ever made.

It probably boils down to what their expectations were.

Local journos are comparing it to a GTI. The GTD is doing very well in other markets cause it's being out for years (only downside was the diesel gate scandal) but locally it was the first attempt.

I think folks needs to understand it doesn't compete with GTI but rather a diesel performance car

Exactly, with all the bells and whistles of the GTI counterpart and that is good enough for me. Because I am trying to do something similar with my Tdi, I can appreciate the convenience of being able to just buy it from the dealership like that.
