Low oil pressure sound

Post by Tswerie »

Recently my 2010 polo 1.6 TDI, millage 295000km, started making a fast clucking sound when the revs are between 1000 and 1200. I have heard this sound many times when a vehicle is in too high gear for low speed or the revs are too low. This is a relatively new issue on my car. It only occurs when the engine is hot and at medium throttle opening (accelerating). It doesn't happen when the engine is cold or at low or high throttle opening. My oil level is full.

not even going to take a guess at that. let a dealership or a good independent look at it. You don't give a location as many new posters do as if it is a scret so I can't refer you to somebody as I have no idea where you are.

I have over the 10 000 kms put in three pints of oil that is not synthetic. Can I drain the oil myself or must the oil be drained by a qualified person?

you don't need a qualification to drain oil.

I've changed the oil, the problem still persists. :bang: :bang:

The car is using a lot of oil and smokes a lot during starting and heavy acceleration. I've put in 500ml of oil in less then 1000km.
The EGR was removed or blocked off (not sure) and the DPF removed about 30 000 kms ago. The mechanic ( who did not do the modification) says the reason for the sudden high oil consumption is the EGR that is dirty, could the mechanic be correct?

Thanks for reading.

In gears 1-5 between revs 1000-1200 under medium load. It doesn't happen at low load

I topped up with the wrong type of oil, because at the time I could not get synthetic oil. The oil was drained and the filter replaced( the oil filter holder was replaced because my car leaked water and emitted grey smoke through the exhaust). 500 kms later the sound disappeared.

Good that you got sorted.

Hopefully you did make a note of the type correct out to use in your car.

You can also consult your manual as it has information about the correct spec oil to use.
