VW Transporter clutch problem help

Post by CRASH_IT »

Hi gents.

So some back round my VW transporter 2014 2.0tdi T5 started a bit of clutch shudder at around 100 000km eventually in November we dropped the box and replaced the DMF with a LUK DMF from GW and put a LUK clutch kit in from Autozone.

Car drove great for the rest of November and December +/-2000km when when January came around gears became hard to engage and in a day or two with clutch engaged the car wants to creep forward.

The car is now at the agents where we have tried to bleed system and checked the slave for correct operation, we then dropped the box and found the little wire clip that holds the fork to the gearbox was broken and fork floating around. Replaced the fork, thrust bearing and still not working as it should.

Anyone experienced this before on these vehicles?
Been advised that it could be the clutch plate that is faulty as its not an oem.
Any advise?

It sounds like you have a lack of travel issue. Sure the clutch fork is not maybe bent or worn ?

Slave cylinder warn maybe?
There is good pedal pressure all the way from top to bottom. About 1" of free play.

Cannot at all think that it's plate related otherwise it would have done it form the word go. So either in the fork or stroke related.
Unless it damaged the pressure plate in between.
But the non OE bull carp is just that. bull.

It's always incredibly hard at the point where the box is back in. Because what you need to measure is what stoke is needed to disengage the clutch and somebody like norbrake can test that for you - but you need to give them the flywheel pressure plate and friction plate. Then measure what stroke you get at the release bearing - which means you have to have the box lying connected to the car and step on the clutch while keeping pressure on the release bearing and measure the stroke. Is there no chance the ball pivot where the fork rests on the other side got worn or adjusted as that will affect overall stroke in the centre. Have a look at the pin that goes in the slave - if you can make it longer / adjustable you can use that to test if an increase there might be enough to make it release.

First thing I always do is make a slightly longer link from the slave to the fork. If thatbdon't fix it, off comes the box.

:type: The pedal travel at the cylinder should translate relatively at the fork. Look out for worn-out pedal hinge.

Check for air in the system, once that is eliminated.

Move on the next step (fork adjustment as per Panic. :iagree:

If you kept the old kit, compare it the new one, factory faults should also be eliminated.
:type: or on the phone...
