Caddy 2.0 TDI clutch advise, please

Post by Jetta2 »

So, I have to change the Caddy's clutch soon as it is starting to slip in 2nd and 3rd gear and sometimes 4th when using the nice torque in anger.
Still stock except for Stage 1 software. The torque wave is addictive.

Please advise on what clutch setup I should go for.
Stay with the DMF or go SMF?
Brands?
Where to get?
Pricing?

Motor is a CLC code if that will make any difference.

Thanks in advance.

everybody and his brother will tell you to put single. I'll be the only one to tell you to stick to the original. Pay the money and put that DMF back in.

If u plan to mod further and don't care about the drive train noise and Vibrations, and the harder clutch pedal then u can go with smf kit..

Single mass kit - +- 6k
Brand - LMB
Shop - TPH or LMB directly

Dual mass got a nice feel to it, but imo it's weak.

Dual mass kit - +-8.5k
Brand - Sachs (because LUK is a pos)
Shop - goldwagen or alert engine parts

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

The reason why I don't like going SMF is that DMF was designed SPECIFICALLY to dampen vibration to the drivetrain. When they dropped SMF and went to DMF front damper pulleys became much smaller or in some cases is not even present. When you now put an SMF in there are undamped vibrations which reach the drivetrain and it's much worse in diesel than petrol. So in the long term it is damaging to the gearbox. A lot of guys will do it purely for the cost difference and to heck with the rest. If you plan to drive it still for a long time and don;t want to replace a gearbox - then use the DMF.
That is my 3.5c on that subject. Yes clutch feel etc etc. but there are long term consequences.
this is interesting to read.
