2005 Touareg 2.5 TDI Oil

Post by pvlietstra »

I recently acquired a 2005 Touareg 2.5 TDI in good condition with low mileage. The handbook states that I require VW spec 506.01 oil. This is hard to come by and expensive. I have read that the grade is critical due to the particular cam lobe design of this engine. Is this significant or just pedantic? What oil do most owners of this model use?

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

2.5 is PD like the 1.9's right? if so then stick to LiquiMoly 4100
It is an ingenius solution to a problem that should have never existed in the 1st place...

Not as expensive as a new engine. Just use the correct grade of oil for the motor. :hi:

Sometimes very hard to come by.
Liqui moly top tec 4200 is also compliant.
There is a havoline or something available at Midas that is also cheaper and compliant.
But you really kind of HAVE to use a 506 oil. it will eat the cam up otherwise.
