Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
Hi,
I'm new to the group. I'm looking to purchase a 2016 Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI. I have always loved VW cars. I need some guidance on whether or not purchase this car. It has low mileage, maintenance plan to 2020, looks very neat and clean. Are there any mechanical or electrical issues that I should be aware of?

Re: Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
At those year - low Km and warranty there should be no reason not to take it. Not sure where the expensive discs and pads come from but you can buy that at Goldwagen - they stock pagid and the pads will be around R1300 per set for the fronts and about R900 for the rears. Discs at around R3000 for a set front.
As for the drivetrain - VERY good , tough and very little issues with those 3l tdi's even at very high Km's

I am also keeping an eye out for a Treg. Seen some 4.2 V8's, unicorn 3.6l and a bunch of TDi's. Based on previous Panic posts on CFBB, not too scared looking at one around 200k km's ...... mine will be a third vehicle so won't do too much mileage.

Re: Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
I am really keen on the v6 TDI and un decided about T1 vs T2 seems to be some pros and cons and about 2500 new parts. Will be looking at a daily as I drive 32km total. Thing is I have only had two cars both 1.9 tdis and they have been extremely reliable 300 00kms +.
Not keen on the V10 as I see the engine needs to be removed if the turbos go, not sure about the V6.

Not sure what maintenance on them costs though but I have spent a good 25k on my Sportline in the last 14 months on just maintenance.

Re: Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
The 07-09 3.0TDI Tregs are probably some of the best value for money SUV's on the market in my opinion.
They were pretty reliable also generally
I would certainly consider one if I was in the market for an SUV.

Re: Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
Got to define T1 and T2 as some places have it different. T1 was 2004 to basically late 2007. Then there was a heavy facelift and a lot of small things changed. 2500 of them according to vw. Some call that T2. These ran till 2010.
Then there was a second generation till basically a few months ago but some called those T3 already. And then the new current one which is really third gen but some will call T4.
But anyways either way. Any of them had virtually the same very robust drive train and running gear and the V6 tdi to me is the star in all of them.
V8 tdi is fantastic but in T3 they were not available with low range in the gearbox so depends on what you want to use it for. But power aplenty and a very good engine.
If you want to use it offroad look for the V6 tdi with terrain tech and air suspension.
I love love love my v10 , but if you can't do stuff like remove that engine yourself then maintenance will COST you bigtime.
Turbo change on the V6 tdi is not an engine out. Pretty simple actually.
But literally ANYTHING other than oil changes is an engine out job on the v10.
Petrol v8 is also very good and reliable and can be had for really cheap now. But then consumption is not great for the current fuel prices.
Personally have no experience of the petrol 3.6 so can't even comment.
I'll have a 2005 V8 petrol available in about a month for around R80k. It's on steel suspension.

I have just bought the a 2013 3.0 TDI Rline Treg a few months ago.. Great car, but fuel consumption is really high only doing short distance and no freeway. Its used everyday, school and shopping center runs and its very thirsty.

Re: Buying a used Touareg 3.0 V6
What is very thirsty. Give a number - worked on tank to tank calculated values..
It should probably be in the 8-9 km/l area or 11-12 l/100lm.
They are not great on consumption as a short commute car. Almost no full sized SUV in that class will be Great on consumption.
