Maintenance Service - Cambelt

Post by CoalWorld23 »

Good Day Gentlemen,

I wish to do a service on my Ibiza FR TDI that includes changing of essential belts and associated pulleys.

So far on the list of parts to get i have:
Cambelt/timing belt
tensioner
roller
water pump
hydraulic lifters

i also wish to change fanbelt.
i am guessing that would include alternator belt pulley?
what else?

your advice would be greatly appreciated!

What milage have you done and do you know the lifters are shot?

There is a tensioner on the serpentine belt as well, might as well replace that at the same time. You will need the "spline" tool to get the alternator pulley off if you or your mechenic does not have that.

Other than that your list looks complete...

i wouldnt change the altenator pulley if its not giving you headaches. Also make sure to use the right oil.

There's a squeak that comes from one of the pulleys. not the one at the alternator. the one on the bottom. especially on start up. and then fades away or becomes very feint. thats why i wanted to change and refresh everything.

Please advise as to what this may be. Car runs perfectly fine. Just the noise

Mine did that exact squeak thing and eventually the alternator pulley climbed off. The pulley is just a oneway bearing, they eventually seize up.

If its on the bottom thats the pulley on the aircon comp. Not many places can swap that out, most will just put in a new comp and thats expensive.

The serpentine belt tensioner pulley is normally the cause of the squeak 8/10 times.

The alternator clutch pulley be kind of tested. Also when they faulty, the tensioner jumps around like its gonna explode.

The cam and lifters can be inspected. The lifters are abit difficult to see though.

With the cam kit, u need:
camshaft bearings,
front cam seal,
rocker arm bolts x 8,
cam cap bolts x 10,
and probably a tappet cover gasket.
