Finding boost leak on a TDI

Post by MarshallGTi »

Any tips from the old pro's like Panic? I don't have a compressor at home so can't use a normal tester, and for the life of me i can't find any spots that might be leaking, checked and replaced hoses, seals and clamps etc. It's driving me nuts.

kthxbye :hi:

Your connection to the turbo. Check it and check that pipe. Look for oil.

Done, new o-ring, new silicone bend cut a bit shorter than the last so it definitely wont touch the droplink, and new clamps for good measure lol

Spray soapy water on the piping, start car look for bubbles? This may not show a tiny leak though..

Can u hear the leak? Or the car is boosting less than it suppose to?

If u have been driving around with the leak for a while it should have shown itself by now..

Another spot is the map sensor flange..

Cant hear it but holds peak boost fine til about 3200rpm and then loses 0.5bar from 3200 to 4500.
No evidence i can see of oil seeping through a pipe of anything, and no soot around the turbo either.
new o-ring and MAP sensor and filed the flange flat and smooth.

Will try soap and water, also have a tin of quickstart spray lying around to try while its under vacuum.

Just gatvol of trying and looking and not finding fokol.

Stupid question but is the ECU Map still requesting peak boost all the way to 4500?

This needs to be checked, run a log of grp11 and see if the requested matches actual.. generally boost does taper down as rpm climbs..

Most stock turbo pd130s i have seen hold 1.6bar (tuned) at around 3500rpm and then taper down to around 1.2-1.3bar at popcorn

Tyrones done my logs when we tried loading a stage 2 map, but thats a good thought will see if we can make a plan and recheck after the recent changes.

Just as a check i would find a friend with a compressor and do the leak test anyway, its good to double check all your fittings once in a while.
Current:

2009 VW Crosspolo 1.9tdi with Qtec stage one remap.
2015 VW Polo 1.2Tsi ( The Wifes Car)

I really doubt a stock turbo would / should hold the full 1.6 after 3500 rpm.
