2008 Polo 1.9tdi Oil

Post by Marius Swart »

Hi

I have the 76kw 1.9tdi
Has 121k on the clock , did the big service last year .
Whats the best option for oil with the same rating .
I used the genuine oil but cannot pop R800 for oil as im sure there is another option.

Was at goldwagen last year but the oil they wanted the give did not have the same specs . It was 505.00 , "genuine" oil 505.01 , the shell helix for diesel also 505.00

Kind regards
Marius

I’ve used the Castrol edge 5w40 and Liqui Moly 4100. Both have been fine, but the LM is definitely a quieter oil. And it’s recommended by a few others, so a good bet

Yes i got 5l last year bit under R800.
Just came from GW , liqui moly 5l only R380. So it seems most people go with LM , vw says they use castrol .

R380 is probably for a 10w40 and if im not mistaken thats not a 505.01 oil. As Marshall said, the correct 1 is around R600

From what i remember, the Shell HX7 AV is cheaper to buy 5x1L bottles rather than a 5L bottle, Marius just make sure if you go with shell its not the normal HX7, it must be HX7 AV
