Hi people

I'm driving a 2007 Jetta MK5 1.9TDi. The turbo is on its way out, makes a whistling sound.

Can any one recommend a reliable place in Pretoria area, where I can recon the turbo, or get a recon turbo?

Hi , send the turbo to Gabby at Fastec 082 922 4233, He is in Germiston tho , i would not suggest anyone else.

Gabby if you must recon, but the recall 96kw turbo should fit with some minor mods and is not much more expensive than haing the bust one recon'd

Just by the way, Goldwagen has a special up to the end of this month on many turbos. They are marked down quite aggressively. So it may be worthwhile getting a quote on a new one, as opposed to a recon... Not sure if they have the one you're looking for; just wanted to post this.

96kw turbo from VW in Booysens cost me R7350 2 weeks ago, BorgWarner BV39B with billet inlet wheel, part number is 038 253 056H

96kw is a direct bolt on, VW supplies with manifold
Mods will be on vacuum pipes and flange on downpipe
Did it about a year and a half ago on my jetta
Upgrade software , proper downpipe and you good to go

Encouraged by your post, I just called VW (Menlyn). The turbo for my Mk4 costs R35k if sold as a VW part over the counter, or, if they install it, the OE Garrett will cost about R11k (excl. labour). Looks like I'll be shopping at Goldwagen this week...

Try to get the 038 253 056H as sugested by MarshallGTi, it is a really awesome upgrade for a 1.9tdi AHF motor. The only mod to be done is the Charge pipe needs a billet adaptor. Even with just the turbo and no software you will feel a huge diff. Much better power in the higher rev range.
I was shocked when I first drove a VE motor with this turbo.

Maybe MarshallGTi can assist by telling you who to speak to at VW in Booysens.

Oh, sorry, I thought Marshall was posting the 96 kW info for the OP with his 2007 Mk5! (See also later post by rkn.) I didn't realise that the info was actually intended as a technical option for my case. I thought it was just a heads-up to include VW in my hunt for quotes.

I'm not sure what is meant by a billet adapter. Charge pipe = compressor side inlet or outlet? (I ask because I may need to replace the outlet pipe anyway.)

But I must add that my driving style is economical. I very seldom take my AHF past 3000 revs, hardly ever floor it, and the stock AHF is plenty powerful enough for me. I would prefer the most economical and durable choice.

Almost all the 1.9's have interchangeable parts and yes the 96kw turbo will fit your motor. That combined with a software tune aimed more for economy than outright power and you will save on fuel bills and still have better performance...

Also did the conversion from 74Kw, so would be the same as yours.

On the AHF the Boost pipe that fits on the turbo fastens with pushover pipe and clamp.
on the 96kw Turbo they use a Circlip and Diff boost pipe. You get the adatper to use your old push over boost pipe and clamp.
And as Marshall pointed out, also helps with fuel economy if you prefer that side. Even low down the turbo feels more usable on load.
