Oil catch can install today

I spent about 550 for everything and did this today hope helps maybe other guys.

1 bracket from builders
4 clamps
2x opel corsa B breather pipes
One oil catch tank

Hey bud i took both pipes to the can as in pic how u suppose to. I didn't just close up the intake hole and took tappet cover pipe to the bottom like some guys do. All oil is catched in can and then i drain it at the bottom.

No buddy one pipe runs to the one side of the can and the other one from the i take also to the can. So as it would have looped usually from intake to head i just now take it to catch that oil in the catch tank then drain it with a plug at the bottom once it fills up that's all.

No no I think we are ma understanding each other. By vent at the bottom I m an exactly what you are talking about with regards to having to drain the excess oil. I understand what you have done. Personally I took that line back into the block so I never have to drain.

Well u can do that also bud but im not gone make hole in my block to let oil go in there again. This is mostly vapour that's running through that pipe. I just wanted to get the oil out my cooler that's all.

But why is there oil in your cooler?

Ok u do know bud that oil gets into your cooler through your intake right?

The breather pipe is connected to your intake which then now then sucks up oil vapour and that gets into your cooler pipes and cooler so this why i install catch tank to catch all that oil so doesn't happen. It happens to any tdi buddy its normal. I just dont want clean mine every year or what

Oh WOW learn something new. Why does this happen on any tdi surely vw wouldn't do that. I mean can you imagine a mother telling her friends " she had to take of that intake thing because there was sooooo much oil"

Thanks. It cost a lot of cash time and swearing. But would still do it over again.

The reason for my original question is because no one takes the time to drop back into the motor. It's very difficult and not a lot of places to drop back. So if you had said yes then I would have asked how. Because I battled doing so. What I did do was when I replacing the oil pump, I found a blind M10 threaded hole just off center. I still it out but retained the threads. Then I bough an FTF fitting and dropped the accumulation line into that along with a one way valve.

It would be nice to see what other ideas are out there.

I Personally never drain oil from a catch can back into the sump. It always has water in it.

O ok i see what you mean. And is this working for you because that's actually good idea to get the oil back into your system again without having to clean constantly it out. I will also have look maybe see can come up with something. My bud have a engine or 2 that out will see can ask him also what he thinks best place would be. If i get anything will post again.

I still wane do the conversion also sometime just trying to get some other stuff done now before start with this. Might maybe just go for stage 2 turbo with billet internals but will see. Just bought house lol sooo cash on down low now for a while.

If there is water can't really be that much can it? Maybe add a filter in the can then pump it back into the engine.

panic, that is a very valid point. Why would provent even bother to make one way valves to return back into the oil system? I think is also about filtration methods, Provent use a fibrous material vs just plain metal sponge. See You tube clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrvciHy2wD8

I Really don't care who does what. I have had a good look at some of the stuff that sits in catch cans. If you are happy and provent is happy to put that stuff back in the sump , go for it. My own- no way is that going back in the motor.

Bought catch can at china town here in cape town d1 spec its decent enough paid 380

Personally that was not my intent but rather to get more info out of this discussion.

I haven't seen any water vapour or "stuff" out of my unit. I also have not had the chance to look inside other setups.
So from seeing water then stuff inside catch cans, what would be deemed an acceptable limit?

The thing is i created this thread for guys maybe wane install it as well and want to do it on their own cheapest way that will work. And also to get opinions from other guys. Everyone have their opinions and no one should diss the other ones for their opinions.

I think all questions is always valid. As a engineer there is always ways to better things and make it work

Of you keep using and watching what goes in thre at some point you will see the oil turn milky. I summer not so noticable.. In winter with big temp differences there ends up being a lot of condensation in there. I will not willingly put water back in my engine.
But again - just me. From my own experience.. Sometimes hard learned.. Sharing it for free...

If your cooler is filling up with enough oil that you have to drain it once a year then I suggest you investigate why rather than to try and make draining easy

4 years of modified TDI ownership and I never had that much oil in my intake system to warrant draining or a catch can
