Golf IV TDi 2002 to Chip or not to Chip... That is the question

Post by schaggadelic »

Howzit Fellas

I have a Golf IV TDi 2002 that's clocked just over 290 000km on the original turbo. I gooi her every now and again and love the torque along with the excellent fuel consumption but I want something... more.

So I have two questions:

1) do you think it's alright to chip this engine as it is?
2) what option do I go for that is both not going to cost an arm and a leg BUT will also actually make a noticeable difference to the kW, nM and bhp of the car?

Thank you

Personally I think it's a little silly to chip a car that is that old. But that's just me. I have no horse in the race ie. I won't make money from saying yes do it......

1: You must understand that your turbo is not new. 2:You will be loading it more so the chance of something breaking increases. 3: When something breaks, don't blame the tuner.

Not really worth it in my opinion. I drive my Jetta for 9 years now and i am still happy with the power, torque, speed and fuel consumption.
If you really want to play with it then get yourself a second car for backup and when you want to work on it.

Rather buy a good quality part that will last then buying a cheap part that won't last.

Hi guys

Few months ago I had my 1.6 tdi's faulty egr replaced and the car chipped. It had so much more power it felt like it could do 200km/h easily (my assumption is based on how quickly it accelerated in 5th gear), two months later I don't think I'll get 160km/h.

Any ideas what happened or what I can do?
Thanks
