1.2 tdi Bluemotion Radiator fan test

Post by Adriaand »

Howzit,

How can I test the radiator fan on this car. Its got 4 prongs.

I drove the car from boksburg and noticed the the consumtion was a bit high. At a point it felt that i had no power/torque. Drove home slowly and when i got home opened the bonnet and the fan was not working. Only a buzzing noise from the fan. Even tried spinning it but it did not start.

These polo's does not have a temp guage and no warning lights came on. Injust need advice on how to test the fan as all die instructions/videos on youtube is for 3 prongs. I tried the negative brown and touched the positive on the other pips but nothing. I just really want to make sure its the fan before forking out R4k.

If you have vagcom you can run the fan as an output test

Tese things don't have a fan switch on the radiator anymore. The management switches the fan on based on temp from the water temp sensors.. Without vagcom or some one ofnthe diagnostic system that does that you cannot test the fan

Does your car have a ambient temperature sensor on the bumper?

If you plug that sensor out both fans are supposed to run at full speed as soon as you switch the ignition on.

Might help just to see if they works.
