SR tuned

Post by bothadam »

Hi Guys, not sure if this is the right place for this but what is the general consensus on getting my 1.9 TDI 9N3 74 kw polo SR tuned.

1. Make sure car is mechanical healthy
2. load software
3. Wonder why you never did it before
4. Enjoy new found power

Theres more to gain(power, better consumption) than to lose if done right.

I'm not going into detail about which software as it will start a tuner war but know and driven in a few SR tuned polo's so can vouch for that tuner.

Not specific to any tuner but even a moderate increase in torque/torque spike will expose any underlying clutch issues/overpower an aging clutch, so keep that in mind when deciding whether to have your car tuned. The same is true for the turbo as well, especially for TDis and especially at altitude. A cost perspective of that:

DMF and clutch kit: R8k excl labour

The SMF kit is cheaper but you have to contend with varying degrees of gearbox chatter.

74 kw turbo: R15k or so excl labour and sundries.

You can go with a 96 kw turbo which is about half of that, but add R500 or so for a billet turbo outlet adapter.

If you're on a tight budget and if either of those breaking will put you into a difficult situation, then perhaps wait until you have a cash reserve first.

That being said, a tuned tdi can be a very enjoyable driving experience.

I also have the same car...please do it...the 74kw is very lazy in stock form...you will really enjoy the way the car responds...problem is you going to gun it every chance you get...
