DIY GASKET?

Post by Tman21 »

Hi Guys, I need gaskets for my EGR blank off plates.

Toppie at autozone didnt seem to know what day of the week it was let alone what an EGR or gasket is.

If DIY is possible what do I use and where do I get or where can I go looking for a gasket apart from agents? 2007 BT 50 3.0 Diseasel WEAT engine.

Thanks :moon:

Uhm. On the exhaust side you might have a problem but is there not an existing gasket. Refit with firegum.
Intake side regular high temp silicone sealer will do..

Blank off plates were 1mm mild and the heat forced it open and destroyed whatever form of gasket there was.

Ill look for Firegum thanks. Will gooi a pic now of the leftovers

As panic said high temp silicone on the intake side and use the metal existing metal gasket on the exhaust side should have no problems did it on my 1.9 TDI Polo works like a charm.

What size are those things centre to centre. I have bery nice 4mm cut from stainless plate one made for them vw's. They look pretty much similar. You could even check at GW for a gasket....

Lets hope this is bog enough. Can always modify the gasket to match studs as long as the seal around the edges.

So 38x67mm holes center to center is 45.5. I had 10 knocked out in an attempt to recoup . . .

What I normally do for an EGR blank off is to cut the OEM flange from the pipe and have it welded shut with 4 or 5mm plate. Refit with a new gasket from the dealer and done.

It's not pretty, but it works 100%, 100% of the time.

IIRC the flange is 6mm thick.

Leave the asbestos get a gasket from agents and use a thicker flange plate with firegum.

Goldwagon has the gaskets, well they have for the 1.9 (not sure if yours is the same)
