Rattle sound from cylinder head on asz tdi-Pics up

Post by keval »

Hwzit guys, I seem to have picked up an issue on the tdi, what happens is from 1700rpm till full boost achieved, I hear a rattle sound from the head. How I reliased its the head is when I idle and rev it in Netrual the sound is there on the head. Once I get full boost then everything is normal and the car is at full power. My question is did anyone experience this and find a solution? I took a video but having trouble uploading it. Will post soon

Ok so Firstly what I picked up was my rocker bolts wernt fully tightened for two cylinders. Got that tightened up on Sunday and car sounded much better but noise was slightly there.

Today I had some time so I pulled of the tappet cover only to find that my cam has flat spots on wear on them on the exact same section where the bolts where lose. Pissed off as I am because in Feb I snapped a cambelt and done the head now im back but lucky enough its just the cam and maybe lifters. This time I will do it myself and make sure it is done right.

U rather have a word with the person who did it the first time bro, the bolts werent torqued down properly, its the mechanics problem. A new cam, lifters and bolts is not a few hundred bucks fix. It will cost u over 2k.
This is why vw recommends replacing bolts and tightening them down to spec, alot of people reuse bolts and then come up with their own "make-do" torque spec.

So just an update, spoken to the mechanic that did the head and his full of B.S , ive decided to get the cqr fixed on my own and not deal with people like this. So far I managed to get another head so I will just transfer the parts I need for now

I hope the lifters were new the first time around and also do replace the cam bolts and head bolts, cause they can only be torqued maximum twice

Well I cannot confirm if the bolts were indeed changed on the first time but I know that he did confirm that cam was in good nick and brand new Inna lifters where fitted in. Would it be an issue if I use the cam and lifters from the old head and fit them in the same positions?

I haven't had much time recently to get to the car but will soon and updated further guys

With these motors it is very important to use the correct oil - mixing and using the incorrect spec oil definitely increases to cam wear.
