Polo 9n tdi fuel filter mod?
Howzit guys
Has anybody tried the fuel filter mod?
I have been reading around and I noticed quite a few people all over the world swap out the original fuel filter for a Catapillar (Heavy equipment) fuel filter?
They state that the OEM filter has a filter rate of 10 microns were as the Cat Filter has a filter rate of 2 microns, well if it filters better why not do some conversions as it will definitely help keep them PD injectors happy..
The question is, will the higher filteration rate cause any ill effects on the fuel pumps?
Im not too sure on the FLOW RATE of each filter (L/Hr) so if anybody has any idea please share..
I also know that the oem filter should be good enough since the vehicle was manufactured with it, besides being able to have cleaner fuel delivered to the injectors, I want to get rid of that **** thermostatic T piece.

Re: Polo 9n tdi fuel filter mod?
i have seen some some good quality t pieces that have been DIY online
but that Tpiece does not need to be disconnected completely, just undo the butterfly clip only, lift T piece with pipes on and insert in new filter
have never done it myself but seen a vid
i was also thinking of a dual filter / industrial filter setup but feel its a waste, would like vent the blowby elsewhere that would help.
but what i would love doing is fitting a 50l tank in that avants boot
that plus the 80l it has already would be awesome er
less fill ups
less chance of contamination
and more KMS

Re: Polo 9n tdi fuel filter mod?
Lol adding another tank is a pain, I know a few people who did that on bakkies but they shouldnt really use the capacity and thats some extra weight there..
I just got a steel pipe joiner and connected up the return straight to the tank. I put in about a 20cm pipe from 1 end of the T to the other end.. that was the end of air bubbles. I think the vibration of the engine travels through the pipes and shakes the T loose.
Anyway, Im gonna try the CAT filter setup on my next service. Replacing that screw on filter is also cheaper, I should save quite abit as i change the fuel filter at every service.. Oh and I think it makes the engine bay look better lol..
Will post the outcome when I do the conversion

Re: Polo 9n tdi fuel filter mod?
After a ton of searching and calls, its impossible to find the filter head! A donaldson dealer can order it from another country with a 16week waiting period.
The search continues..

Re: Polo 9n tdi fuel filter mod?
So does Donaldson, but according to all the info that i have read through, other brands of filters does not have an "absolute" 2 micron rating, which is what makes the CAT 1R-0750 different from other makes.
There are probably other filter companies with the same rating that i didnt find yet, but im going with that specific brand of filter because of its availability, price, size, and the experiences of others..
What makes it more difficult is that, every company I spoke to think that fitting this in a car is a stupid idea and, are of no help afterwards.
Anyways, if i cant find a suitable head in the next few weeks, I will just get 1 made up..
