tdi light blue smoke?????

Post by stukkendeTdi »

Morning chaps

I noticed this morning that my 1.9 tdi is smoking. I noticed at the robot when I stopped....

I checked and it smokes when it idles and obviously smokes more when I run it.

Its a light blue smoke. What could it be????

I'm running out of money and patience with this damn car... :bang:

How many km's ?

It sounds like the turbo seals has gone.

Wait for others to reply and PM G60 golf ,he might be able to give you more info.

Rather take it to someone that know what they are doing.

Mine also started to smoke, took it to a garage.
According to them it was the turbo, replaced the turbo same problem.
Took it to another guys, he opened the engine on the first day. Found out that the piston rings and valve guides was busted.
Don't know if it solved the problem, the car is still with him now.

Yes blue smoke means oil is being burnt. Now the challenge is to find if it is from the turbo or elsewhere. Have a compression test done that might point out a rings issue. If it was valve stem seals it will disappear when you drive and only do it on idle. Turbo can smoke all the time and generally rings/piston issues will smoke all the time but heavier under power.

First try and clean out the intercooler. If there is a lot of oil in the IC then you know there is a problem with the turbo seals. Also check what is the injection quantity per injector at idle.
Best would be to do the compression test as per Panic suggested.

Rather buy a good quality part that will last then buying a cheap part that won't last.
