Polo classic 1.9 tdi vs Jetta 4 1.9 tdi

Post by flintstone »

Hi

Apologies if this has been discussed before but could you please advise if these engines are the same and what is a better option in terms of consumption and daily driving. The jetta seems better specced with the heated seats and sunroof but is usually older eg 2001,2002 compared to the polo 2004,2005.

Engines are not the same at all, the fuel system is very, very different. If it were me, I would take the MkIV Jetta, every day of the week...

VE motor in the MKIV vd PD motor in the Polo.
MkIV Jetta/Golf any day for me over the PD100 Polo. The jetta will be lighter on fuel but not by much and the spec level is way better than the polo.

May be true, VW does this a lot when testing new engine platform, but there wouldn't be many...

What is high? North American guys have run the MkIV TDi's to well over 400k miles without major issues...

Mileage can be high as long as the car was looked after and a full service history.

remeber if the car is well looked after dont worry too much about the mileage. the mk4 is a solid car .the mechanical diesel feed i found is quite reliable. and the jetta is way more comfy and spacious and imho better build than the polo

Well I owned a Jetta 1.9 TDI and a PD130 sportline.

The Jetta in my view is cheaper to maintain and with the design has less to go wrong as the motor ages. The PD motors have very very very expensive injectors so if the mileage is high I would stay away. Also the VE motors turbo's didnt have issues like the polo's did

The Jetta was a dream, I didn't sunroof but the cruise control made up for that. Heated seats and comfort was second to nothing else I owned. It was also lighter on fuel than the sportline.

Since you aren't even considering sportline, its a no brainer to take the jetta over the classic if you can find one in good nic.

Only the PD130's had turbo issues which have since been rectified, I haven't heard of one with a turbo failure in quite a while. For a daily drive, I would take the MkIV Jetta every single time, great torque, great fuel consumption, better chassis and a boat load more space and features...

And what would you like to own more again the Jetta or your Sportline?

It depends what I want in a car. In this thread its asking for the classic which is a no. If I want reliability and features I would take my Jetta back as a daily. If I wanted speed and being cool and some inconvenience of having two doors then the polo.

I do admit that not much I have driven had bursts of accel like my sportline.

Paid about R1000 for a Bosch nozzle recently. Full injector should be more, but still not as expensive as the PD injectors.

On that mileage I would replace the lifters as well when you do the cam belt service. Rather safe than sorry.
