Intercooler plumbing

Post by M@rk »

Hi as some of you know i want to diy my intercooler but i would like to know what size and what kind of pipe to use?

:puke: Use Search function

I have notice people say use the factory spec 50 mm size but why?? its not stock any more its boosting more so will it still make a huge diff in turbo lag?

I am thinking 63 mm?

and

is stainless steel or mild to heavy?

Mild steel plumbing will not rust. There is always oil present in the intake side of a turbo due to some seepage from the bearings. There is nothing wrong with using thin tube mild steel for intake side plumbing. I have done it lots of times. Just either paint or powder coat the outside once it's made.
The size is a long discussion and there really is only one way to find out. That way is
A) make it in 50 mm. Run it on the dyno
B) make it in 63 mm. Run it on the same dyno
C) compare the two and decide which one you want.

Thanks panic :hurray:

If i go with mild steel then ill make sure i give it a few cans of spray maybe something that protects it from rust.

I suppose we are not talking about the same way of doing stainless. If you buy dairy bends and polish ot after it ain't gonna come to R700 thats for sure.

I did all dairy bends in 63mm. Granted I didn't polish it. It's around 70 bucks for a T304 stainless dairy 63mm in durbs

Mild steel is right - can bend easily without constricting much. Looks neat as...
