2002 Isuzu KB300 TDI software/ship

Post by Dirty Harry »

My Dad has the above said vehicle.
We bought it from a guy that had a 'chip and loop system' installed. I am not too sure what that means but from what I can gather its pretty much a piggy back chip and it needs to be dynoed at Dastek in PTA. We had it once before that the engine light comes on every so often for no reason and at that point we needed to 'reset' the ECU to stock and have it re-dynoed.

Once it was re-dynoed it had better power and the fuel economy wasn't too bad. Now, the engine light is coming on again as it pleases and the fuel consumption is f-ing shite! from R100 which is about 7-8 litres of fuel I am hardly getting 70-80 km's and that is driving decently.

What I would like to know is, is there someone that knows or does software for these vehicles as I feel the issues is this chip and loop system thing that is in here. I am thinking along the lines of Trevor at Dimsport or the likes that could help. I just dont want the thing to stuff out coz they don't know what the engine can handle kind of thing. eg what you do to a polo you can't do to a BM tdi kinda thing.

I know SAC do these kind of things but I am a bit weary of them TBH.

I know the Isuzu forum is probably a better place but they not into this kind of thing, they are more worried about who went where and what tyres, wheels, shocks, and 4x4 equipment they have.

I would like ot sort this out for my Dad so that when he is able to drive again he doesn't sit with kak.

Any help or advise will be appreciated.

Cheers
Harry

A buddy's dad has the same bakkie. He has a Unichip and the consumption is also crap. Gets 400-450 on a tank!
He had CEL problem and it turned out to be the EGR valve. Replaced that and problem solved.

I'm not quite sure on software, but maybe give the different software guys a shout. These engines are pretty old tech unfortunately.

Cool will check it out thanks.

Might be old tech but I'm sure that they still use a ECU as per MK4 TDI etc so surely something can be done?

The fuel consumption is only kak when the thing goes funny. Otherwise a normal 700-800km can be done. IT has a long range fuel tank installed so with both full about 140l then around 1300-1500 km can be done.

We have a 1998 or 1999 280TDI which is still standard and its not a rocket **** but still prefer that over the facelift model. Sounds like a proper plaas bakkie should.

10km/l is normal for those bakkies. 12km/l can be done if you drive light foot. All i know is they speak about installing a chip on those bakkies, never heard about a loop system.

Rather buy a good quality part that will last then buying a cheap part that won't last.

Well 12km/l is not bad for a 1.5 ton vehicle considering a nissan 1400 bakkie which is half that weight gives about 9km/l which is bad acording to me.

Ask this on the Isuzu Offroad site or on the 4X4 Community website. Plenty of knowledgable people there.

I'd start by removing the piggyback chip. Think it would be a good idea to take it to someone like Trevor.

Didn't think so. just dont know why the flippen ECL comes on all the time. Last time took it to a GM dealership and they said just reset the ecu by bridging two connections just infront of the gear lever under the dash. Then had to get it re-dyno-ed as it obviously went to stock. So now every 3 or so years I have to do this kak? Not right. something is obviously going funny somewhere.

Could be the EGT's are too high and the ECU is picking it up. get it tuned by VD Linde, listen to my advise.

If you say so ;)

Have you had anything done there before?

Well I have an EGT meter so I don't think its that. And it doesn't get driven hard enough for that to happen, purely coz I can't afford to floor it lol.
