Air intake upgrade

Post by dirkme »

Hi guys,

Which air intake upgrade do you recommend for a Jetta 4 TDI?
How much of a difference does it make?
Do I need to retune the car after its done?

Thanks

Not worth it on a TDI in my opinion.

Wasting time on that. Rather a mufflerectomy or remove just the cat which could even be clogged up. Doing this will allow more gas to escape and bring down EGT'S.

Just stick to the OEM filter. It does a much better job at filtering the air which in turn helps your turbo and injectors not clogging up with very fine dust particles. And if you did do some sort of intake system then you will not need to have a retune the ECU will adapt. If you can try fit an FMIC will hold the power for longer and you will not get heat soak. A slight tweak with the map is advised after fitting an FMIC.

I notice that the standard inlet hole in the airbox is smaller than then outlet one going to the MAF. Would cutting this hole larger make any difference, since then more air can enter?
