MAF sensor for Jetta 4 TDI

Post by dirkme »

Hi,

I suspect my MAF sensor on my Jetta 4 TDI is not working properly. When I am travelling and suddenly press the gas pedal it takes a long time to accelerate, it used to be quick. Also my fuel consumption seems to be slightly worse than normal.
Last one I put in was a reconditioned unit, installed it about 3 or 4 years ago.
Any idea where I can find a MAF sensor new for a good price in Pretoria/JHB area?
Thanks

yup its a bosch unit. nuber for the pretoria branch (012) 327 4810

Maf on the tdi is basically there for the smoke control, if it reads low then it will limit fuel and thus decrease performance. when you unplug it it defalts to a certain value so performance is unaffected. thats why i said unplug it and see if it runs better.

on the 1.6 you have no wideband so unpluging it would undoubtably make the car run like crap.

I drove home with the maf unplugged. No change in power, slightly worse fuel consumption. There was no error given on the dash. Is that correct?

That correct yes. It wont give a error on the dash.
Have the car scanned to double check what the fault may be.

Rather buy a good quality part that will last then buying a cheap part that won't last.

Cool, one more question, should i clean the intercooler to prevent more oil from spoiling it? Car has just under 290 000 km on it.

I disagree with this, if there is no change then how can it be the maf?

Correction. When my MAF packed up the car was dead up to about 2500 rpm then suddenly the turbo kicked in for a short while. When i unplugged the MAF the car pulled way better and more like it supposed to be. But MAF's also give different symptoms when they pack up.
