TDI pd130 'whistling' on boost - Video

Hi Guys

My sportline has a whistling noise under light boost , it is not a boost leak, i have changed every silicone hose and pipe when doing the FMIC. there is no smoke so would guess turbo seals are fine

my next guess would be a intake manifold leak, but thought id ask first if im missing any other diagnosis from the symptoms

it's really hard on a reording like that to get a sense of how loud it is etc. To me that does also not look like a partial light load, it looks pretty much like full boost and then you usually can hear the boost. has it always done this or started after you changed something, is he intake side stock ie. normal paper filter in airbox etc.

Thanks for the response.it is at half throttle. Nothing had been done when the problem started. I then guessed it to be a boost leak. Changed all the bends and pipes and did the fmic at the same time. But unfortunately there's still a budgie stuck in my engine bay. It seems to only occur as the boost comes in. There after it disapears

Weird, I sometimes get a whistle on idle - Not all the time just when it is cold in winter. It has done it since I bought the car even with the old turbo. On really hot days the turbo howls when you give it boost - Also it has been doing this for over 40 000km since the day it went to Trevor.

Vehicle has a pd160 intake and a K&N flat filter in the stock box.

OK so it started whistling, at which point you changed a snot load of stuff and it's still whisteling?. Then there are 2 possibilities
1) the turbo is going out of balance - ie. it is about to fail
2) it's caused by something like the vnt vanes ie. not one of the items you have changed.
thing is even at partial throttle you can be producing full boost pressure.
Did the car suddenly feel stronger - which could mean it is overboosting.

Mine always whistles on idle. But the "tweeting" noise on boost is a new thing.

Noted. If anything it feels slightly weaker , the whistle has been there for a few thousand k's. is it possible it's lasted should it be the turbo going out of balance?
