Maximum allowable boost on the VNT1749VA
Hi guys
What's the maximum "safe" level that i can increase the boost on my turbo? I'm currently running at 1.58 bar. Would 1.8 bar be too much?
All advice and suggestions welcome

Marco is running a 2bar map , I am on a 1.6 bar map but most of the guys seem to be running 1.8 bar maps
Nice mod list you got there !! I assume with FMIC 1.8bar is pretty safe

Max requested is around 1.6 - 1.7. The boost spikes to 1.9 - 2.0 at the JHB...
..but depends on how you drive. I warm up, cool down, treat with ''mechanical sympathy'' and only use max boost sometimes.

I'm leaning towards a boost of 1.8 bar, would you recommend it? I do allow for warm up and cool down and only sometimes do i hammer the car

I would recomend 1.8 bar seeing as you have FMIC + DP + FreeFlow !!

It seems that quite a few guys have their boost turned up way past 1.8 bar. This gives me comfort in knowing that I can now have my boost at 1.8 and without worries of having my turbo go on permanent vacation

Not if the tuner knows what he is doing.AshTDi wrote:should I be worried?MeanTdi wrote:1.8 bar spike yes, not requested. If you request 1.8 it will reach over 2.1 bar.AshTDi wrote:Great! it's settled! 1.8 Bar it is!! I can't wait! Will upload the results as soon as i get them
I have been running 1.7 bar requested and boost spikes of 1.9 bar (I have seen 2.0 bar in 5 deg C twice)...but then after a run or two I let the turbo relax a bit.

Re: Maximum allowable boost on the VNT1749VA
Again this depends on the tune of the map, overly aggressive maps with huge ramps and changes in boost will tend to spike more than maps with more gradual increases in boost...MeanTdi wrote:1.8 bar spike yes, not requested. Re: Maximum allowable boost on the VNT1749VA
The 17 series turbos VA and VB series run outside their efficiency range after 2.1 bar from what I have read so 2.1 bar is really the absolute maximium.

Re: Maximum allowable boost on the VNT1749VA
I think the VA's start getting out of their efficiency range from 1.8-1.9 bar, with the VB's around 2.1-2.2 bar, I know I'd ratehr have a VB at the same boost pressure as a VA as it will run cooler and flow better...dazza wrote:The 17 series turbos VA and VB series run outside their efficiency range after 2.1 bar from what I have read so 2.1 bar is really the absolute maximium.
