Golf 7 2.0 TDI noisy cambelt

Post by Gbvl »

Good morning, new to the forum. I have a 2015 2.0 tdi Highline with 85000km. On cold starts there is a noise coming from one of the cam belt followers or tensioner and goes away once at operating temperature. I’m thinking of having the cam belt replaced with the 90000 service so just a few questions.

1) will it be safe to wait till 90k with the current noises
2) VW Midrand charges around R8k just for the cam belt replacement. Do i have better alternatives here or is that the going rate everywhere?
3) are they supposed to replace the water pump as well as it seems to make sense having all the covers and kit in that area removed/replaced anyway. They indicated pump is not part of the cam belt replacement but could just be the service consultant being clueless.

Thanks in advance

Rather be safe , shop around as dealer to dealer prices change dramatically.

If you out of VW warranty with external warranty they RMI would work.

I don't see why you would want to wait a few thousand km's on something that is clearly a issue with the risk to cause major damage if the belt skips a tooth or two...have it looked at ASAP.

Change the waterpump also same time, its recommended.

Get it check ASAP if the cam belt breaks or jumps a tooth you could be in for around R20k+ repairs.
Seeing that you car is out of warranty being a 2015 model.
I would suggest going the see the guys a Vagspeccentre in Randburg.
It's not needed to change the water pump on these models.
The cost of these water pumps is around R4.5k due to the fact that it has a magnetic clutch built in to it.
Parts from pricing Goldwagen is not bad at all.
Build your car for yourself, not what an internet forum tells you.
