VW JETTA 3 STARTING PROBLEMS

Post by rinaydhaver »

HI,

I have a Jetta 3 which starts when cold but refuses to start once the engine is warm/hot. I have changed the coil, spark plugs and the bogi cords but still the same problem. Anyone have any advise or a solution for me?

HI
Have you checked if there is spark? I would start a process of elimination, check for spark, then fuel pressure from the pump. I know of a lot of vw carb engines that have fueling issues when the motor is hot relating to the pump getting hot.

Hi,

sorry, should have stated it is a injector system. I was told I have a high pressure fuel pump and that it is working as there is fuel coming to the fuel rails. There is spark even when it does not start, there is spark from coil.

someone told me to change the thermo switch, the one that sits in front of the head but I am not sure as I have already changed the plugs, bougi cords and coil so was sceptical of just going to buy more spares?

Hi,

I have bought the thermo switch and still the same issue. I am really not sure what to check or change now?

Hi,

Rotor is fine, I assume dizzy is the distributor? If it is then yes, I was told that it is still fine.

Does the engine turn when you turn the key or is it just dead?

Motor turns, swings perfectly, just does not start. The thing that baffles me is the fact that it starts with no issues what so ever when the motor is cold, just that once it warms up, then it just swings but does not start?
