Thanks for your kind words bro.
nah dude, thank you for educating us on the older cars as it applies to me as well.
I just have an issue of wheel arches trimmings fading (also smooth) on my mk1. Just need to find a way to revive it without doing any spraying on them.
Any ideas?

I will try the other products you have used.
To revive the trim, bear the following in mind.

a) it has taken years of 'neglect' for the trim to get into the state it is in, so don't expect a 5 min restoration to miraculously undo all that damage.
b) the faded plastic you see is actually dead/oxidised plastic and so 'scrubbing it off' will already reveal 'new' darker plastic underneath
c) prevention is better than cure, so finding something you like and using it often will help prevent this from happening in the first place.

Here is another detailed guide written by Mike Phillips of Autogeek (take note of the scrubbing on page 2 of the thread) http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/aut ... -trim.html
LEGENDARY!!!

Bookmarked :)

Thanks

Thanks bud.

You have to remember that it took 30 years for the paint to look like that, and so investing 50 hours undoing the damage seems insignificant in comparison (although 50+ hours is still a span of graft   ) but its really the only way to do it properly. Sure you can get a quick 'polish' from the local car wash, but there is simply no way to rush a proper detail, IMO.

Do it right, or don't do it, yes!

I think all too often people expect that there is something one could simply spray on a walk away and voila, 30 years of damage reversed.... but unfortunately it is not quite that simple

Only a pleasure bud. There is at least one other rinseless wash made by Chemical Guys available locally from Crazy Detailer, but ONR is something they will always stock, so you should not have an issue getting your hands on it. There is also a version that contains a wax which will leave behind a little bit of protection with each wash.

As for #7, unfortunately this is the only product of its kind that I am aware of. As a matter of interest the same formulation has been around ever since Meguiars started producing it somewhere BEFORE World War 2

You can source it online at Meguiars but may need to contact them via phone / email as it is not something usually 'displayed' on their website.

Thanks again bud  Ordered what looked to be the last ONR Wash & Shine from Crazy Detailer along with some microfiber polishing towels and will go on the hunt for a good sealable bucket. I know someone who has a contact at Keizen so will ask him to see if they have stock of the Meguiars #7, there is nothing listed on their local website but we have always been able to get non-stock Little Tree's so it shouldn't be an issue...

I am really keen to see this ONR in action, as I mentioned before I am severely restricted with what I can do in terms of car washing where I live, this will really help cleaning my older cars...

Awesome

Yip Keizen is the place to grab some #7 from - they will also hook you up with sealable buckets with grit guards should you want.

Beautiful! Great to see another classic VW restored to its glory. My paint, trim and interior was in a similar condition on my MKII and after some much needed TLC its in showroom condition again. It's amazing how these cars shine when given a proper detail.
