Nothing much to it...

Make sure the paintwork is properly cleaned and free from loose dirt and debris. Ensure you keep the clay well lubricated to help minimize any potential marring (fine scratches caused by the abrasives in the clay) and you should be fine. If you drop the clay bin it...Any sand or grit that gets caught in the clay will scratch your paint!

While many guys advocate rolling your clay and re-using it I prefer to cut it into small pieces and then turf them after use. Since you typically only clay between 1 and 3 times a year, the additional expense is minimal. Generally I cut a clay bar into 8 pieces (200g bar) and end up using 2 pieces for the horizontal surfaces (usually the dirtiest after the rear end), another for the rear end and then one piece for the sides and the front bumper. From a 200g clay bar you will easily get 2 consecutive claying's, both performed with brand new, clean clay. Naturally you can roll the individual pieces while you use them, but after each section is done I prefer to bin the clay.

Hope that helps

My clay lube is running out and I'm in the middle of claying my car.

What else can be used as lube while claying?

Perhaps you should bath now and then

If anything surely it would be a little better to have it stick to your fingers and not fall on the floor, as opposed to being difficult to 'hold on to' and dropping it, in which case you'd need to throw it away?

Bath???? eish trying to go for the rat look guy

The only pro is that it wont fall, but it gets a bit difficult to work with and very messy

The trick is to use a big enough piece so you get a good grip , also keep it well lubed and work small areas at a time.

Car wash and water causes the clay to break up prematurely.

Chem guys luber or autoglym rapid detailer works a treat :)
