Thx for that info. I have also experienced my clay bar braking up. Thought it was because of age.

The general rule is, if you are planning on claying your car, you should be planning on at least 1 polishing step thereafter to remove any potential marring from the claying process, even if it is only a light polish with an AIO.

Obviously the harder your paint and the less aggressive the clay bar, the less likely you will see marring, but there is no method to completely guard against it. On darker cars and cars with softer paint, clay marring is always a real possibility.

As for lube, dedicated clay lubes will work better at preventing the clay from breaking down during use - I tend to use ONR instead as it works equally as well and is a fraction of the price.

And to solve the problem of clay sticking to your hands when claying, simply wear a pair of nitrile gloves.
