Open airbox remove the cones (upper and lower) and reasemble using std paper filter makes the most HP and that was prooven as many guys here will tell you

Oh and a bit of useless info, this concersion makes 9hp more than a cone filter !!! :D

I currently have removed the 2 smaller pipes or cones inside the box and have a piper cross filter.

Well in that case thats it, that is the best induction mod to a mp9 car  Odly enough (if remember correctly) the paper filter still gave the most HP, all I can think is that the mixture leans out slightly with "freefow" filters ???

right step 1 .. undo that big black clip that holds the pipe from the manifault to the airbox off (tip put it onto the airbox side other wise you're going to struggle to get it back over)
step 2 ... remove the two black bands holding the airbox in the engine bay and remove airbox from car.
step 3 ... open airbox and you'll see a cone in the top half and a cone in the bottom half. The cone in the top half is easy to remove it just slides out of the hole with little persuasion. The cone in the bottom is another story, you'll need a fair sized flat screwdriver. Push the screwdriver in under that airbox, you'll see a little clip holding it in, if you fiddle with it the cone will slide out once you release the clip.

Assemble is the reverse of steps 3 - 1
Hope that helps

If you want to get the bottom cone off easier, use a hammer and just hit the cone softly and it will pop out... :blue

Thanks man. What else can I do that does not cost too much money, to increase performance. If I connect a pipe from the box to the bottom of the car will it increase performance sort of like an air duct

You can try that ??? only problem with that is the air is generally hotter closer to the road surface, and I think that would only really work and speeds over 100km/h, but I could of course be talking sh*t I don't know for sure :D

Ok which Golf 2 GTI? The 1800 8v have the Kjet system which cant really take a Cone because of the Fuel injection, and the 2lt 8v with Digifant couldnt get a cone cause of the AFM (or so I thought)

Side note my 98 GTS (1800 MP9) doesnt have the trompets in the airbox, it is different to the Citi's airbox though. Any thoughts?

Howsit guys

On reply 2 my cone filter on my golf 2 gti, i didnt remove the whole airbox or anything, i modified the original box and fitted the simota filter. It fits in quite nice and the sound is awesome.

Next month ill b fitting the polo head with a gotech management system, do any if u know if this is a wise choice, or should stay with the original fuel inhection?

*bangs head repeatedly on desk*
Say cheers to 9Hp

And no you can make it roar any more. Maybe try squeezing a lion under the bonnet, should also be good for the show part

Pair of 6x9's under the bonnet with a cd on repeat might work as well.

I removed the trumpets on my Velo and stuck a K&N filter in - I actually wanted a BMC filter but the shop was out of stock so I took the K&N.
