DIY - HOW TO DETRUMPET AN MP9 AIRBOX WITH PICS`

Post by dood786 »

hello peoples

took some time to do this for all those who dont know

im sure all of you know what an mp9 airbox looks like - if not here is a hijacked pic cos i forgot to take one (sorry bofar  )

Image

now if u open the airbox and remove the airfilter, this is what you will see

Image

the pipe you see is your bottom trumpet, connected to the bottom of the airbox by a small clip

what you need to do is disconnect the trumpet from the box by either using a screw driver or sharp object to bend away the plastic part where it clips in

the way i did it - honestly - was to actually bang the airbox with trumpet facing downwards till it broke off

once off, this is what you will see

notice the clip inside the airbox and on the pipe(right side)

Image

once it is out, the front of the airbox will look like this

Image

now for the top trumpet

if you have a look in the top half of the airbox, you will see this

Image

you can either just pull it out as it is or you can disconnect the pipe below connecting to the throttle body

Image

and it will then leave you with this

Image

congrats you now have a detrumpeted airbox

nice naseem , sticky this in the FAQ section for sure.

BTW on 1.4's it's recomended to leave the top trumpet in as it increases air speed velocity

U might want to re-install the top cone...I tested with removing each and then both the cones(on a loading dyno) and got the best results with lower cone removed and top cone left in(extra 3nm torque). (running a modified ABF with cams - 153hp and 176nm). the cones are there to tune the length of the induction system and reflect pressure waves up and down the inlet tract(engines do not flow, they start and stop due to valves opening and closing) and the correct length(and diameter) reflects the pressure waves(at a certain rpm) and the pressure wave then coincides with the next valve opening - a tuned length header does a similar thing on the exhaust side hence 4-2-1 or 4-1
