DIY Mk4 GTI Cloth Recaro's into Mk2.....

Post by Jetta2 »

Thanks to Meox for the seats  much appreciated.

Gave the seats a quick vacuum and then the fun started.

The seat rails on the Mk2 are 480mm apart, the wheels on the Recaro subframe are 525mm apart, so 45mm has to be removed somehow.

After some measuring and contemplating, I decided to do the most dastardly deed I have ever contemlated and hauled out the hacksaw and started cutting up a Recaro.....

Cut off 45mm from the arm:

A mock up to check measurements:

Welded up, and don't worry it has been welded properly, cleaned up and painted satin black again

I had to make the outer wheels slightly thinner by cutting them a bit with a Stanley knife. This was to let them roll into the outer rails without sticking.

Next problem was how to mount the adjuster goody properly. After some more contemplation I decided to cut the Jetta's standard seat adjuster part on the chassis and drill 2 holes so the Recaro adjuster would bolt onto that:

And finished:

These are without a doubt THE most comfortable seats I have sat in for a long time :D

Thanks again Meox
