TIP - help needed

Hi all.
Can someone please tell me what the so called 'TIP' is? I'm guessing its a turbo inlet/induction pipe. Is this the same as the famous Samco cold air induction pipe that goes into the air box or am I confusing the two?

Also, I recently bought a piece of flexible hose called RAM tubing (63mm), for R80 per meter from autostyle. Is it safe to use this for cold air induction on a 1.8T? Is it as simple as removing the current air pipe and installing this pipe or are there special precautions to take?
