Jetta - more performance?

I need more performance on a Jetta 2 CSL 1.6 carb. Any suggestions?

(except for getting another engine.

Change carb to a Weber downdraught. Get cam. Branches and pipe.
Won't see much improvement in power though.
Maybe get the head gasflowed and larger valves.
Then sidedraughts or throttle bodies.

Will it be worth it?

(It's only used to work and back - 12km's a day, but it is nice to have some power at your dissposal)

Maybe go for the branches and pipe. Should see a few killerwatts gain. Get carb rejetted?

Okay, I've been thinking - a pipe, branches and cam. Will it make quite a noticable difference?

When I still had the old 1600 motor in my Jetta, I got the new 1800. Stripped out the G cam and put it in the 1600. Had the Wildcat branches and pipe put on before the motor swop. The motor revved easier and the top end was slightly better. It wasn't a huge difference but I could feel it.

Thanks for the info. My other car is a E30 BMW 325i. (it is my baby!) That's why I use the Jetta to work and back - cheap to maintain (but it is driving me nuts, especially when the aircon is on.)

It's okay - you just have to floor it to get away!

Open road is okay - town driving is bad with the Jetta!
