Advice on fueling a TDi and running in
Hi guys, being a petrol-head my entire life, i'm very new to the TDi scene...(pickin up my tractor 2morro afternoon - Black Magic Polo 1.9 TDi SportLine ).
1 Need sum advice on the best brand of fuel to use frm ur experiences, (the Stallion, the Star, the Green Stuff or Sasolberg's stuff??? )
2 How long should i run in the engine? (1000kms is the general consensus, but is that sufficient?).
Thanks...
Guardian.

At the risk of being told I talk **** again ... you may want to read this and form your own opinion:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=464223 <-- jut adjust the RPMs about 15 - 20% down, as I don't think the instruction are particulare to our exact engines. Although I believe the rpincipals apply.
As far as fuel goes, 1. Sasol, 2. Total, 3. Shell .. my personal preference of course.

It is fact that SASOL and TOTAL have ULS (ultra low sulphur diesel). Ive been told the new shell Vpower Diesel is but i havent verified myself.
Guys just only takte that TDIClub.com stuff so far, most of the info on that site is written with the non PD engines in mind. The PD130 engine in the polo is very different from the other TDI engines (Mk4). Obviously some stuff correlates but a lot is different.

SASOL tops charts cerberus ...cerberus wrote:I'd also say go for Sasol.
Also read the guidelines in your manual for running in the car. It worked for me.
And Yeah ... the manual pritty much spells it out nicely
Resist the tempatation for "arse in the chair feeling" as much as possiable in the running in proccess.

Man oh man!
Hey Chicken Licken, would 3000RPM's be considered as "Arse in Chair" feeling...if so, i've been a Baaaaad Boy then!?! Problem is that it accelerates/rev's up pretty quickly, and i end up feeling guilty. She's only got 190kms on the clock

It's the "full throttle" that you gotta be aware of ... More more than half at the moment ...
It's tempting yeah man ... and the rev's climb like a F1 but you gotta watch that rev counter cause before you know it and look again u doing 3k + and 240km/h and climbing ...

Hey guys
Firstly, I think any new TDi driver should, actually MUST, read the following post:
http://www.vwclub.co.za/vwforum/viewtopic.php?t=15980
As for running in, just take it easy, don't go above 3000rpm and try not to let the turbo boost fully. Please don't ever take a TDi into the red, 4,500rpm is the absolute maximum and you have passed the peak power and torque long before that anyway - so what's the use It is very important that you let her idle after driving - as explained in the above mentioned post:!:
Fuel wise I personally don't use anything other than Sasol and Total, nothing less than ULS
Hope that helps - anything else just let ask - there are lot's of helpful guys around here
Cheers
