I know this is probably of the point, but a friend of mine had a stock 1998 GSX 1.8 like yours. She wanted more ooomph outta her car. I removed her trumpet from the airbox, fitted a simota flatpad filter, removed the plastic 90deg pipe running from the airbox to da fender. I replaced that pipe with flexible indution hose that runs down to the little vent on da lower part of da bumper. Also soma serviced da car for her and had the timming optimised. Her car runs like hell now. She even pulls Velociti's from time to time. The beauty is that you cant even see that anythig has been changed on da car

You should try this if you havent changed anything on your car yet.
