:type: Well i had help from Bosmossel TDI,

you open your boot and then pull the inside plastic cover away near the brake light in the middle

it sounds like your going to brake the thing but dont warry, we where pretty rough

with it and no brakes  but be carefull not to pull it to far, you dont want to bend it.

There is 2 screws that you will loosen you dont have to take the cover off because the screws are pretty close

to get to and presto the brake light is loose
Need to do this as I have a globe or two blown so thought it would help others in the future

Globe type: R955 W16W 12V - HIGH LEVEL BRAKE LIGHT BULB

Will update with photos when I have a chance.

Awesome, also seriously need to get mine fixed

will any spares shop have this? Or where are you buying from - did you get some pricing yet?

I know Albert did a LED change in his previous car, would be brighter and last much longer...

between 8 or 10

Found this:
DarkRanger wrote:So after a crap load of help on the forum  , I decided that it is best for VW to do it. That is till they charged me R550 labour ONLY. I was like nevermind, that light can stay broken until the car is worthless.

Anyhow, decided it can't be that hard, so I gave it a shot this afternoon. And yes, I thought about my fellow VW Polo enthusiasts, and here is the guide!! W00h00!!

First, right at the handles on the inside, remove the two screws.

Image

Then, stick your finger between the lock and the body, and just pull. VW uses zink clips, so don't worry about them breaking. Should come of easily-ish. Grey panel removed.

Image

Then, stick with the grey piece, start at the edge and just pull it out. More clips. That's the lighter panel removed.

Image

Now, loosen the three screws. This is basic stuff, but might be hard if your a dumbass. :bang:

Image

Then just start at the edge of the red light and pull it off. It is stuck on, so don't be afraid to pul to hard. It won't break.

Image

That's it, 3rd breaklight is off! Now for the fun part, VW charger R18.00 per blown bulb. And it's only availible at the agents. Awesome hey?

I used 3.2V 20 000mcd White, 20Deg LED's. There is space for 15 lights on that thing, with 12V running through, so we had to connect 16 LED's in a series and parallel setup. And thus one LED had to hide behind the rest. Feeling left out kinda.

Can't wait for the other LED mods to come through.

I need something more plug 'n play though

So I landed up stripping and taking the faulty globes in hand to try get them at VW but they would only sell me a complete unit for about R450, I did try two different VW's and then gave up

Part number for the complete unit: 6Q6 945 097

I then went to Violet Electronics (See Forum advertisors section) and they sorted me out with some globes, It's the same halogen globes used in certain BMW's angeleye rings. They do not sell them but offered some that they had removed from the angeleye rings, They do however sell the LED version of these globes.

The globes look like so:

Image

To replace all of them you will require a total of 15!!

Changed these today.

Sourced the globes from the nearest Midas Fairdeal at R5 a globe. They are used in certain 'older' cars dashboards.

The bulb is a capless 12v 1.2w wedge and looks like this:

PS it is not a 16w globe.
