I've been reading through this thread and it's simply great!

If I may ask, what did you use to polish the combustion chambers? I'd like to do something similar when I pull my cylinder heads off...

It was really just a half-baked attempt, I didn't have enough time to do it properly. I used Q20 and waterpaper, but I am sure there are better things to use.

 I see!

What grit waterpaper was it? I don't think that there's anything wrong with using waterpaper and Q20, as all you're doing is just smoothening the metal...

You can use a small rotary wire brush in a drilling machine to get rid of any carbon deposits first. Use a brass wire brush, not the normal steel wire ones, the aluminium head can be easily damaged.

Hey Mike.

The motor has been running strong for almost 3 years and 100k kms and it has never missed a beat.

Only snag is I drive too fast, get too many fines and race anything I can.

Hi, awesome thread by the way, Been thinking very seriously bout going the 2.0l mp9 route myself. Was just wandering what consumption all you guys running 2.0l systems are getting. Does it increase dramatically from the 1.6i? And what power gains can i expect from 1.6i to 2.0i?

I just filled up, so off 45l of Shell 95UL I got 530km. This is mainly town driving with a few +-30km highway trips and a few 180km/h+ drives to work.

i have only read this thread for the first time today and congratulations - very informative and covers most bases

Regarding your head polishing project check out the SA Abrasives website
http://www.sa-motorsports.com/do-it-yourself.aspx - pretty informative and might help you a bit

Regarding mr 16v's comments-very tired and no need to bring those comments to your thread
and if he is still following -our 2.0ltr 8v's run over 100 kw at the wheels on the reef with hydraulic heads and using run of the mill pump gas
not sure what that would equate to at the coast and measured off the fly but sure it's well over 110kw

i got the same conversion as you 2.0 8v with sidies though. How is your oil pressure my oil
pressure is 8 bars at 1st but when the motor gets hot it drops to like 1 bar then the buzzer goes off
could it be my oil. It never used to do this before OR should i install a oil cooler

Where are your reading oil pressure off, head or filter housing?

found the same problem with the race car, move your sensor to the oil filter housing
sorts the issue out
also a must for the oil temp
