VW Caravelle - 2.0bitdi & 2.5tdi Guidance

Post by nathid »

Hi,
Anyone owned either of the two vehicles above and what are the fundamental differences between the two ito maintenance / running costs?
I've heard the 2.0 is slightly sluggish in city driving ie you need to give it stick to get the best out of it - any truth to this?
The 2.5 (late models) are selling at reasonably lower values, what are the running costs and performance like?

Thanks

The 2.0 does need a few more revs than normally associated with diesel vehicles, but when serviced properly run well over 220000km with very little money spent other than services and usual wear and tear , brakes do wear at about 40000km but we have drivers running around so does have a bit a a hard life , also it's lasted this long in witbank so with the air there and roads still never break it.

Thanks dude. Do you possibly know which motor would be best between the 2 ie 2.0 / 2.5?

The older motor is strong, both are good choices , just find the newest one with the lowest milage and you'll have a good vehicle , FSH is a must

The 2.0BITDI should pull plenty well, I think the 2.5 only has an extra 8kw on the 2.0 on paper that is.

Power delivery might be different. But I have not driven a 2.0 to actually compare.

I agree.

Not sure about the manual vs auto gearbox though. Mine is a 6 spd manual and gear 1 is so short and I do enjoy auto bitdi on amarok 4 motion double cab and think its very nice considering the size of the bus. Will hear what others say.
