CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
I just received my CAR Mag and they test the above against each other.
Mass of Golf R= 1579kg and Roc R= 1448kg
Both is DSG.
Golf R 0-100 5.89. Roc R 6.17. 4wd FTW
1km sprint: Golf 25.82s @ 204.4 (Golf 6 GTI is 27.2@ 196) Roc 25.98 @ 203.6
40-60: Golf 1.42; Roc 1.15
60-80: Golf 1.57; Roc 1.31
80-100: Golf 2.17; Roc 1.76 fwd FTW
100-120: Golf 2.52; Roc 2.14
120-140: Golf 3.38; Roc 2.65
So the Golf R's advantage of 4wd is quickly lost by the extra weight and power loss of the drivetrain on tractability.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
So Roc R 40 - 100 seems like 4.12sec and then 0-40 about 2 sec!

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Do the gear ratios differ between the two? Certainly looks like there's different gear change speeds.

No, according to CAR the ratios are exactly the same.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Then I think their testing is flawed. That's a HUGE difference on the 120-140 speed, which I think would then carry on to give a huge difference over the standing km.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Not necessarily because time gained on launch by Golf R can be lost during the run.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Dunno hey - a full second faster 100-140. but only 0.3 slower 0-100? I think given those number the roc would be sprinting away from the golf. 0-140 time of 11.79 vs 10.96 is a significant difference.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Remember, the 100-120 and 120-140 times are overtaking measurements and normally done in 4th gear from rpms outside the optimal rev range, opposed to normal 0-100 runs where the cars are both at optimal revs throughout...seems like the golf's extra weight is obviously a disadvantage to get the momentum going againSinbad wrote:Dunno hey - a full second faster 100-140. but only 0.3 slower 0-100? Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Maybe the Scirocco R tested was a lemon? Compared to CARs test of the Scirocco 2.0 in 2009 they got a 0-100 of 6.46s, 1km sprint of 26.57s at 199.x km/h. Not much in it considering the extra 41kw?Titleists wrote:I just received my CAR Mag and they test the above against each other.

I honsetly thought that the scirocco R would be quicker in the 1km sprint than the golf. Probably the weight. How can a scirocco R weigh 140kg more than a 2.0 TSI???

+1 Well at least for the 0-100 time. S3 does it in 6.2* IIRC.johnjm wrote:I dont remember it being that way...Titleists wrote:I do, will post it up.Nerville wrote:anyone got these specs for an s3?

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Actually in 2007 S3 6 speed manual sprinted 1km in 25.65 @ 210.1 km/h, I suspect DSG gives better times than manual.MeanTdi wrote:+1 Well at least for the 0-100 time. I doubt if a Stock Golf 6R would give an S3 a hiding.

Re: CAR Test: Golf R vs Roc R
Cool Topic.
I do however think the New G7.:R will embarrass the new Roc .:R seeing as the Roc R STILL uses the same engine,
and the 7R has a brand new physics destroyer of an engine.
Golf is a WAY better buy now imo.
