11th May Detail Day with Crazy Detailer and Autofinesse

Post by lawrence »

So the time has come to provide you all with some hands on 'training' on how to properly maintain your car's appearance.

:hurray:

Both Crazy Detailer and Autofinesse have agreed to sponsor products for the day (A sincere thanks to both our forum sponsors :hurray: :hurray:  ) and the intention is to get a bunch of you together, pull a couple of cars through the 'bay' and on each one, I will give you the theory and quick demo, and then supervise ( ) you lot doing the work.

This will not only give you the skills needed to maintain your own car, but will also provide you with access to try out some of the amazing products on offer from both Autofinesse and Crazy Detailer.

I would like some input as to what aspects of detailing you want shown to you, but my gut says we should look at:

Tire cleaning and dressing
Wheel cleaning and dressing
Pre-foaming
2BM Wash
Various methods of drying
Tar removal
Iron removal
Claying, including how not to do it - in other words to actually cause some clay marring and then attempt to polish it out by hand (I will bring my machine with in case we can't get it out by hand, which I doubt)
Sealing (wax/sealant)
Glass cleaning
Plastic trim / rubber cleaning and dressing

We are also trying to organize a photoshoot for a little later in the day. There should be a good vibe (as there always is at Dubcorp) with some tunes banging and maybe a braai or 2 on the go.

I am looking forward to seeing you all there, and sharing what I know in order to help you guys keep your cars looking fresh

Given this is a few months away, we still have time to plan etc, so lay your ideas/wishes etc on the table and let's make this a cracker of a day.

Details:

Venue : Dubcorp V2.0 (123/125 BLAIR ATHOLL ROAD, WESTVILLE, Behind Shell Garage)
Date : 11 may 2014
Time : 9:30

There will be some braai stands going so feel free to bring some meat and whatever you're drinking.

Also, a kick ass hamper will be raffled off on the day

Hope to see you guys there

11th May Detail Day with Crazy Detailer and Autofinesse

Post by Life160 »

Are there any shops in JHB using AF that I can use to detail my cars? I should be doing it myself - but doubt it will ever happen.

Are you talking about someone who details using exclusively AF products, or are you looking for a place that sells AF products?

If I'm in Durban then I should be able to make it! Sounds like a great idea to teach guys like me who are starting on their first car, rather learn the correct way from the start! :hurray:

Also I see sponsors are mentioned, but will there be an entrance fee or is cash more needed for the braai

Also do we need to bring anything except our cars, vleis and a good attitude to cleaning and meeting other VW owners?

Will be a good idea to have products from both sponsors on sale for the day.

I do not anticipate an entry fee for participants, but do suggest you tuck some money away for a braai etc. There is no real significant cost to the club to host the event, and I will give up one of my detailing weekends at no cost either, so that I can try to share the knowledge.

Obviously not everyone's car's will be able to be cleaned during the day and I anticipate selecting which cars will be done myself, based on what I want to teach you. In other words, claying a white car is a whole lot easier than a black one, but showing you guys how clay can marr the paint is best demonstrated on a black car not a white one.

So pretty much just rock up, learn, gets hand on, and enjoy.

Kyle in principal I agree, however it is difficult to know what will sell and what won't.

If the sponsors are prepared to ship down stock on consignment, I am sure it could work.... but again, what do you send down?

I also think that once people see that it is not that difficult to keep your own car looking fresh, they will be more inclined to shop for products such as the wide variety Crazy Detailer sells or specific products from specific brands, like Autofinesse.

Agree 100% on consignment principal,

I would say wash products, clay kits waxes and sealants.

Stuff the avergae guy would use at home, maybe the guys who are attending can suggest what they would be interested in.

I am there... with a black car you cannot know enough about detailling.

WRT to sponsor stock, if either are willing, the items that should move IMO, are most of the basics:
- wash mitts
- drying towels
- proper microfibres
- shampoo
- leather cleaner/conditioner
- APC
- glass MF's
- maybe some wax's

Thanks lawrence for giving up your time to pass on your knowledge.
