Proposed event - Dyno Day

Post by lawrence »

This thread refers: http://www.vwclub.co.za/forum/viewtopic ... 4&t=162300

We have a few options available to us, so really from an input point of view, we need to understand what the expectation is from your side for the day.

How many runs do you want to have
What do you believe is a fair price to charge for these run(s)

What has worked / not worked at previous dyno days you have been to?

What day of the week works best for everyone

Start/end time?

Suggestion: get the cops involved from the start. Let them clamp down on people acting like idiots.

How do we get the police involved? Do we have a police presence on the day? Battling to understand exactly what getting the cops involved means please elaborate

Talk to the local metro. Get them to assign a car to be at the event, to keep an eye on things. We as a club want to have a reputation for orderly events with minimal instances of hooligan behaviour, having metro there tends to keep people in line - and it also gets metro "on our side" before other people complain ...

the reason why i mentioned the cops is because previously at some of the other dyno shops that are on a main road, local metro police came and started writing down fines for cars that were parked on loading bays etc, on a weekend and parking was dermacated with cones.

they only stopped when a written permission from the counsil was presented to them... and those fines could not be taken away

agreed some people do act stupid and attract the attention of the cops, create a bad reputation for the club and venue

so a good/right thing would be that metro is invited like sinbad mentioned get a car assigned there, other than they invite themselves, because its never a good sight

They already had dyno days at Autotrix, its off the main road and the area should be quiet on a weekend..

I'm confident we can hook this up we just need to agree on dates.

Autotrix sounds good! As long as the crowd is mostly vwclub guys instead of these lyties who like to test the rev limiter every few seconds, I'm happy.

I think its inevitable that you will be attracting a whole lot of other people at a dyno day despite it being a vw club event. My vote is a Friday evening though, I know they recently held one on a Thursday night iirc.
Seems that dyno prices are escalating slightly as it used to be R100, then went up to R150 and now it's about R200. If you can squeeze them so that it's about R150, I think it would be a fair price.
Maybe a little suggestion also, if this works out, allow people to sign up with the club at the event, Membership cards can be posted etc. however if one pays on the day, then maybe have sufficient membership packs available to hand out.....
