I feel that if you have a car club get together, it should involve the cars, so the fact that the guys meet somewhere and all end up inside, drinking, makes me feel like it is more of an excuse to go drinking, rather than a car club! I fully understand the social aspect of the club, but feel that if the guys want to be outside around their cars, that is something to be expected from a car club get-together.
Hey, that's just my two cents worth.
Ok I'll bite...
So then when we do have a car related event (Go Karting @ iDube next week.. breakfast run.. braai.. etc.. with cars).. you not attending??
But constantly whine about what or what not we supposed to do?
@ Balls ... firstly, it was Lawrence who was saying "what or what not" we should be doing when he questioned the guys who stayed outside by their cars. I merely added my two cents worth, and as I said ... take it or leave it. Clearly you just couldn't take it, huh? Also, this is exactly the reason you don't see me at the events, because it is no longer about the cars but about drinking or socialising and even when the guys decide to hang around their cars to chat or discuss mods or whatever, it gets questioned. Sorry bud, that is exactly why I have taken off my VWClub stickers and won't be attending any more events. If that's the attitude of fellow members towards each other on an open forum ... it's time for me to move on.
To reiterate.... the purpose behind the monthly meet and greet is for the guys to socialize and get to know each other on a personal level, to reinforce the 'dub family'. To 'bond' for lack of a better term. Granted, a lot of the guys in these types of social environments do drink, however that is not the case for all.... I for one do not drink when I am out as I will not drink and drive. Period. And there were many people who did come in to Hooters and joined us for the social aspect of it, who did not drink.
So it is not like there is a requirement to be an brandy drinking machine in order to attend a meet and greet.... all we are expecting from the people who do attend these is for them to SOCIALISE.... to get to know the rest of the guys.... to become part of the 'family' and for them not to stand in their familiar little clique, with only their own mates, and remain isolated... to me anyway, a LARGE portion of what makes dubbing so appealing, as opposed to most other car brands, is the sense of family that it brings with it. To a lesser degree are all the cool dubs...
To therefore make a statement that we are now purely focused on drinking is not only absurd, but is also very far from the truth.
As it should be, ALL the actual events which we have are purely focused on CARS - be they track days, breakfast runs, car shows etc. Therefore, if you have a need to quench your petrol head thirst, which clearly you do, then surely we should see you at all the car related events, despite your opinions on the more socially focused events?
I respect that you are entitled to your viewpoint and should you choose to longer be associated with the club because 'the boys consume a few drinks at a monthly SOCIAL gathering' then so be it... however to make claims that we are no longer focused on cars and only on drinking is not something I can accept and actually take offense to it, given the large amount of my personal time that I put into organizing these events.

Ok well you clearly miss the point everytime so take your stickers off and leave you won't be missed
I think the reality is, at most events you will find guys hanging out around the cars and socializing whilst others would be having a pint or two elsewhere. Being a 'car club' I think this is acceptable. Jono, mikes been a part of this club far longer than most of us and think your comment above is a bit out of line.

Umm devZo, how long you have been a member means **** in my eyes, it's all about how involved you have been! Meet and Greet, just like Blackout in JHB is about meeting the people behind their dubs, and actual Sanctioned events are for driving and talking cars, but he wouldn't know since he's hardly shown face at a proper event! I side with Balls!!
