Re: Meet and Greet 06 Dec - Hooters - Umhlanga
One of the wife's deadlines got moved up so she is working late. I can't go to the dinner alone, so I am not going. So I will be there. See you guys at 6:30 at Petroport. I live about 2km from there, but will need to drive about 6 to get there. I have to drive down to Umgeni offramp and get back on the N2. Or I could reverse down the Nandi drive offramp

Re: Meet and Greet 06 Dec - Hooters - Umhlanga
Right so let get the 'nice' part out the way.
1. There was a really good turn out, especially when I rocked up at Nandi drive and for the convoy through to Hooters
2. It was good to spend some time with the familiar faces again
3. It was nice to meet Bevo face to face
4. We were at Hooters
Now for the not so nice
1. To the group of you who thought it would be really cool to rev the crap out of your cars and wheelspin whilst exiting Hooters, you guys are all a bunch of :tosser: You do realize that 1) it is dangerous, 2) by association you bring the VW Club's name into disrepute - you are all just lucky that we had not formally booked out a table(s) at Hooters or I can assure you that we would have received a major complaint from their management and in all likelihood, would not have been allowed to return. I would strongly suggest that you reevaluate your own principles and decide if it really is worth it to behave in such a childish manner.
None of you would have heard this over the sound of your revving engines and burning rubber, but almost all of the patrons at Hooters were all swearing you and your mothers when you left - I did not see/hear a single person who thought you were cool.
Seriously okes, pull it together - we will not accept or condone unsafe and irresponsible behavior at our events, even if it is only a social meet and greet.
2. How come so many of you chose to remain in the parking lot (presumably chatting about or looking at your cars), when the real purpose of a Meet and Greet, is to MEET the people you interact with on the forum on a regular basis, and get to really know them by spending some time chatting in a more social setting? I would have loved to have you okes actually join us inside Hooters and spend a bit of time with us - perhaps next time?

Your can looks really sweet bud.... hopefully one day in the not too distant future I can get better acquainted with it whilst polishing it for you?
Look I get that not everyone could stay all night but was just hoping that instead of having a split in the meet where half the okes were inside and half were outside, we could all have been together getting to know each other better, but what did get to me was the way the okes 'behaved' when leaving, not 'when' they left.

Re: Meet and Greet 06 Dec - Hooters - Umhlanga
I gotta put in my two cents here ... I totally agree with you Lawrence, on the first point. All it takes is a few irresponsible twits to spoil it for the rest. I remember attending events at Toyota test track and Suncoast Casino where that kind of behaviour resulted in the loss of use of both facilities to the respective clubs. It is just so childish, man.
On the second point, I must disagree with you Lawrence. In fact, that is the reason I have been so scarce recently. The whole reason I joined the VW Club was ALL about the cars. I feel that if you have a car club get together, it should involve the cars, so the fact that the guys meet somewhere and all end up inside, drinking, makes me feel like it is more of an excuse to go drinking, rather than a car club! I fully understand the social aspect of the club, but feel that if the guys want to be outside around their cars, that is something to be expected from a car club get-together.
Hey, that's just my two cents worth.

Re: Meet and Greet 06 Dec - Hooters - Umhlanga
Hi Mike
Whilst I respect your view point in regards the 2nd point, I have a different view point - yes, it is a car club, and we should focus on car type stuff.... we do this at the events we host, be they show n shine type stuff, karting, breakkie runs etc, all of which provide the opportunity to talk/eat/sleep/drive our dubs.
The monthly meet and greet is exactly that ... a MEET and GREET... to get to know each other, not each other's cars.... we have found that through the socializing side of things, friendships have been forged that will last a long time, and to me any way, a large part of DUBBING is the mates you make a long the way, and spend time with the at car related events....
So yeah I here you, and respect your right to your own opinion, but honestly believe that whilst spending time in your dub is important, and checking out other dubs is cool, dubbing would be toyota/hondnaaing (or replace with any other car club) without the mates and social aspect, as in my mind, this is what DUBBING is all about.
Just my opinion

Standing in the parking looking at cars is lame. Socializing with peeps on the other hand is rad. The Dbn guys have a nice close community going on.

Re: Meet and Greet 06 Dec - Hooters - Umhlanga
It was nice to meet up with the guys. I enjoyed the quick convoy. It must have been a site to see all these Dubs on the N2 during peak traffic.
Now...WRT lawrence's comments. I totally agree. The M & G is a social gathering of Dub lovers. It is a non motoring event by motoring enthusiast. There are sufficient motoring events where the focus is solely on the cars. And it you really want to check out someones dub, check their ride thread.
I can understand 15min's lingering in the parking gawking at the next ou's new 17inch mag or whatever else there is to see. But please, do come inside when you done.
As for the "screaching tyres and so much of smoke (not really)". This is not really called for. I can see that your Polo looks nice. Its got a nice mag, drop, tint, sunroof and whatever else it may. To be honest, the Polo's all looked awesome, and I was glad that there were no Ricers. SO big ups to you guys (no sarcasm). But all that adoration and awe for your goes out the window when you start revving. This is just being a nuisance and creates a bad impression amongst the public.
