Karting at Idube 16th December 11:00

Post by lawrence »

Right so a few of us have been itching to get behind the wheel and do some driving :driving: . We tried out the 'shopping mall' type go-karts and whilst we all had a good time and there were plenty aching muscles, we want to step it up a notch or 2.

I have done some investigating into hiring karts at iDube Raceway. iDube Racetrack has a reputation for being one of the toughest racetracks in South Africa. The track is 1.056km and is run in a clock wise direction.

Bookings are essential and as such if we are to plan the event, it will require pre-entry so that we can collect all the money and secure a booking.

Costs are R850 per kart per hour and we need a minimum of 4 karts to be booked. These are 125cc race karts and are leagues above what we drove at Galleria....

Effectively they are open to us structuring that hour how ever we want.... a 1 hour endurance race with 1 driver per kart (although I think you would crash and die due to your numb arms long before the hour was up :fear:), a 1 hour endurance race with a couple of people per team (like maybe 4 drivers at 15 min each with a pitstop to change drivers?) or 4 x 15 minute spring races...or....or....or..... FYI 1 x team of 4 competing in 15 minute sprint races works out to R212.50 each, really not that bad considering....!

At this stage we need to gauge interest so that we can establish if it is viable for us (from a cost perspective) and we will also need to know what format of racing you guys would prefer so that we can try and get this event off the ground.

I know there were many mutterings about power/weight ratios ( :hi: Kingdubber  ) and so we will need to take that into account too.... and given that Pushpop is an ex-karting racer (SA4), he has to strap a 150kg of lead to his back before he is allowed out on track :moon:

We are thinking of convoy up to iDube, pedal karts for a while, gooi a braai or something and then slow cruise back. They are also fully booked until beginning of Dec so this event will most likely occur in Dec sometime, or if that will not work, early next year...

So who is keen?

I'm in. Think 4 people x 15 mins is going to be the best..

Come guys.. its not that expensive and its a real kart on a real track, you've got to do it for the experience.
