Charity Event - Malvern Children's Home
Hi guys
So as I am sure you are aware ECR is currently promoting its Winter Warmth campaign, and given that we normally get involved with the ECR Toy Story, it got Grant (ScottiesKJ) and I talking.... we are keen to do something for a charity soon and are just not too sure what to do, so I would like to invite you to put forward some ideas so that we can collectively decide how to proceed.
Here is some info that Grant has obtained re: The Malvern Childrens Home and we can look at either collecting some donations, and then rolling in their in convoy to deliver the donations, or maybe go do a bit of DIY maintenance? I dunno.... what do you guys think?
The Malvern Children’s Home – Children need our love & support!
The Malvern Children’s Home gives hope to children in need – children who have nobody to look after them due to their care givers inability to do so due to poverty, unemployment, substance abuse and domestic violence...family breakdown is common, child neglect and child abuse are still rife in the community and there has been an increase in the number of orphans as a result of the HIV Aids pandemic. Children at the Children’s Home have been exposed to severe neglect and abuse. Parents do not have the personal qualities or financial means to care for their children.
There are currently 120 children in their care:
- White 57
- Black 31
- Indian 12
- Coloured 20
There are 50 boys and 70 girls aged 3 – 18 years.
The Malvern Children’s Home is a place where children can be safe and develop into successful adults.
HOW CAN YOU HELP!?
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT THE CHILDREN’S HOME
Donating food / Toiletries / Clothes / Toys
Donate cash
Interior & Exterior building maintenance
Volunteer to be a host parent

Re: Charity Event - What to do
I think if you willing to help this charity then do something that is meaningful and that shows you really care and have time for these kids. Giving the tin of baked beans and a jacket is cool but easy to just go drop off a few things and go home forgetting the life they live. Doing some maintainence lets us experience a small portion of how they live etc and is 100x more meaningful.
If I can also suggest another home that is also in need that my church has been involve in before? The YPC House off ungeni road is a home that looks after young girls either homeless, infected with HIV/Aids and other terrible circumstances. I have done some maintainence work there and there living conditions are bad. They people that work there are so appreciative of any help that comes there way. I can get some more info if more guys are keen on this as well.
let a dubba know

Re: Charity Event - What to do
ShaunTdi 100%
Giving stuff is awesome and great but my idea when chatting to Lawrence is really to give more than just the normal. Really do something wow for them and i agree i think a full day spending time with these children is called for. Id like this to become a serious yearly event that we can get sponsors that will stay andnot just be there for 1 month then drop out. If we as 1 small club can help one home to get going and show the rest out there maybe it will be a spin off for more homes.
I have a few companys im gonna call when i am back in the office and see what i can arrange. Will keep u guys posted.

Re: Charity Event - What to do
Cool - Fanatix Boy also contacted me earlier... there is a charity his graft is supporting and they asked if we could join up with them. Asked him to post details here.
There is also the whole ECR Winter Warmth thing to consider.
think we need to get some option up here, create a poll and see where the most interest lies, and then we can make it happen!

Re: Charity Event - What to do
I personally feel if we could help one of the lesser know type of charities than one of the big Corprate charities .....as they smaller guys need the help more .....

Re: Charity Event - What to do
What about a raffle on the Saturday of Dubrun. Each of us contribute towards maybe a car detailing hamper. We raffle it on the show day and proceeds be used towards paint or something like that.

Re: Charity Event - What to do
I'm sure this is gonna be the normal from all sponsors i am also gonna push my company to put in a good amount for sponsorship. if not bye bye e mail server don't mess with IT we know what you browse
Lawrence or any big dawg Committee members is it possible to get a letter so that once we made our calls we can e mail a letter to them?
Also i think maybe before we go wild here maybe we should settle on a place first?
So far we have
1: The Malvern Children’s Home
2: The YPC House off ungeni road
Anyone else know of a worthy place?

Re: Charity Event - What to do
Maybe we could do something like this http://www.crazydetailer.co.za/index.ph ... cts_id=636 + something like this.... http://www.crazydetailer.co.za/index.ph ... cts_id=375
We will be looking at R400 bucks for the lot - both 'kits' are on special and all we need is 40 guys to chip in R10 each at the raffle and we have made our money back - any more than that is profit to be used on the paint?

Re: Charity Event - What to do
Yeah we can still set prices etc, was just trying to show that I am sure it will be a viable option.
So if everyone is in agreement we need to get some bucks together so I can purchase the kits....? How we going to handle that?

What if we look at a sponsor for the prize maybe even talk to Crazy detailer and see if they wont put up the prize for us that way all the money can go to the charity? If you get me a letter head i can chat to my company and maybe have them pay for it?

Lawrence i think also we need to decided on a charity now perhaps lets put up a poll and let the guys vote so we can contact them and see what is really needed before we go getting unnecessary things for them?

Re: Charity Event - What to do
Ok so just to let you all know, I have just placed the order from CD for the 2 detailing kits. Total including shipping = R464.
The JHB comm is happy that we raffle this kit off and any proceeds we make are to be used for the charity event.
